Hotel

General Information :

The Nottingham Road Hotel is situated on the R103 Nottingham Road turnoff, 8 km from the Durban/Johannesburg N3 Highway.  Only just over an hour from Durban and the new, amazing Moses Mabida Stadium where many World Cup games, and the semi-finals, have been played.   King Shaka International Airport is also just over 1 ½ hours away.

Notties, as the hotel has been fondly known by several generations of locals (and passers-by who have stopped and found the spirit of the place so welcoming that they have returned time and time again and sent friends and family to try it out), has been part of the little village of Nottingham Road since time immemorial.  It wouldn’t be far from the truth the say that the entire village sprang up around the beautiful old Hotel.  Under the auspices of Clive and Linda Foss who moved into management in May of 2005,
Notties has come into its own through their tender loving care. The Foss’s are known for their flair for hospitality and they have brought the old ambiance of Notties back for our enjoyment.

If it’s fun, friendliness, R & R (rest & relaxation) or shopping with a difference, good food and access to a huge variety of activities you want, you really need look no further than Notties Hotel.

Within easy access to the Midlands Meander and some of the more popular Meander attractions with the beautiful Kamberg and Sani Pass close by, and the Nottingham Road Brewing Company only a stone’s throw away.

Nottingham Road Hotel’s resident ghost – CharlotteNaturally any self respecting old building like this one has to have a ghost. Although no record of her death can be found, Charlotte was apparently a prostitute at the turn of the century. She was either murdered or committed suicide when her love for a British army officer went unrequited. Either way, her death involved a tumble over the balcony outside her favourite boudoir, Room 10. Charlotte is well known in the village, some folks have heard her, and some have seen her gliding round the corridors and down the stairs, just keeping a watchful eye. Paranormal investigators believe that unquiet spirits have a reason for coming back. The only way to find the truth is to sleep in room 10. This is no marketing gimmick, there is a ghost roaming the hotel. Come and find out for yourself what the creaks, bumps, padded footsteps and voices are.

Weather:
All four seasons in one day can be experienced here. Huge summer storms can sometimes be accompanied by gale-force winds and hail. Warm clear blue skies in winter, with decidedly chilly mornings & evenings Then the promise of magical snow – and when that happens, Notties is even more wonderful. That’s when the gluhwein comes out, the fires get banked even higher and visitors, from near and far who come to see and play in the snow become friends and part of the warm community that is the Nottingham Road Hotel.
